ARRL ARES Minimum Training Standards

Basic

  • ICS-100
  • ICS-700
  • ARRL Basic EmComm Course
  • Obtain Task Book
  • Join ARES Group
  • Technician License or above

Intermediate

  • ICS-100
  • ICS-200
  • ICS-700
  • ICS-800
  • Intermediate EmComm Course (prerequisite is the Basic EmComm Course)
  • Net participation at least once per quarter
  • Program a tone into an HT
  • Program frequency and offset into a radio
  • Complete and send an ICS-213 Message

Advanced

  • All Basic and Intermediate requirements
  • ICS-120, 230, 235, 240, 241, 242, 244, 288, 2200 and 802
  • ARRL ARES Advanced EmComm course
  • 1 Public service event annually
  • SET or Exercise participation bi-annually
  • Serve as Net Control
  • Present a training session
  • Hold or previously held a leadership position in a group
  • Participate in PIO activities (PR-101 qualifies)
  • Proficiency in using ICS forms
  • Operate a VHF digital messaging station in Peer-to-Peer mode
  • Operate a HF digital mode messaging station
